Tennis players shun Spanish doctor

PARIS (AP) ? The owner of a leading tennis academy in Spain that trained some of the sport's stars says its players have stopped working with a doctor banned by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for helping riders on Lance Armstrong's cycling team dope.

Pancho Alvarino told The Associated Press the relationship between his TenisVal academy and doctor Luis Garcia del Moral "started approximately 14-15 years ago."

That overlaps with del Moral's work for the U.S. Postal Service cycling team. The USADA says del Moral helped to implement a "team-wide doping program" as a doctor for USPS from 1999-2003, when Armstrong won the first five of seven Tour de France titles that have been stripped from him for doping.

The USADA handed the doctor a lifetime sports ban in July. Del Moral criticized the agency's proceedings and said he never witnessed organized doping at USPS.

Replying by email to questions from the AP, Alvarino said "many of our players" consulted del Moral for preseason blood tests, strength tests and for injuries. He said TenisVal used the information to tailor specific training programs for each player.

If there had been any indication that del Moral was doping academy players, "I would have denounced the doctor, as well as the player," Alvarino said.

He indicated the academy has now severed the link with del Moral. "After Armstrong's news, no player from TenisVal has (had) contact or any kind of relationship with him," he wrote.

Players paid the doctor's clinic directly, Alvarino said, adding that TenisVal coaches always accompanied players on visits to del Moral. TenisVal and del Moral's clinic are both in Valencia, on Spain's east coast.

"Dr. Del Moral has been always a very important personality in sports medicine in Valencia and he has worked with many sports people and sports teams from many countries, as everybody knows," wrote Alvarino, a former player, and captain of Spain's first Fed Cup-winning team, in 1991.

Sara Errani of Italy, the losing finalist in women's singles at the 2012 French Open, said in September that del Moral "was the best doctor in Valencia for everything, so I have been working with him, of course."

Errani added she would no longer consult him because "his name is not (a) good name."

Former top-ranked woman Dinara Safina of Russia also consulted del Moral when she was at TenisVal. Russian website Sport Express last month quoted Safina as saying del Moral "has the only real clinic in Valencia where athletes can undergo tests before the beginning of the season and at the end. And we underwent the tests in this clinic. We ran on the treadmill, they took blood samples from our ears, and so on."

"Del Moral gave us no advice whatsoever and did not handle our cases," Sport Express quoted Safina as saying. "I have nothing to be afraid of. I'm clean."

The manager of the International Tennis Federation's anti-doping program, Stuart Miller, said he investigated del Moral's work in tennis in the wake of the USADA's ban.

The ITF "interviewed Sara Errani, among others," Miller told the AP. Citing confidentiality requirements, he wouldn't reveal details of the investigation or say if the ITF determined whether del Moral helped players to dope.

"If there's a case where somebody has breached the rules, it will be publicly reported," Miller said. "So you can draw what conclusions you like from that."

Del Moral has disputed the USADA's evidence against him.

In a statement posted last month on the website of the Valencia clinic where he works, he said: "During the years that I was with the medical team of U.S. Postal I never was witness to doping organized by the team, nor of course any that I (supposedly) facilitated or promoted."

"Beyond a doubt, I have not participated in any doping ring, nor has it been proven," the statement said.

In affidavits, former Armstrong teammates told the USADA that del Moral drew up doping plans, injected them and supplied them with the banned blood-boosting hormone EPO as well as testosterone, human growth hormone and cortisone, and helped extract and re-infuse blood for banned performance-enhancing transfusions.

Make Great Web Marketing Decisions With This Advice | Voooz.com

TIP! Stay upfront and give information about your business. An affiliate link can not be hidden from your readers, and attempting to hide one in your page without disclosing it will cause them to distrust you.

You can earn a lot of money by creating sites that attract readers and generate money through affiliate ads. You can start using the powerful advice in this article to put your web marketing business on the map.

TIP! You can use affiliate marketing programs to successfully market your business. Affiliate programs have been shown to generate much more site traffic than passive methods such as banner advertisements.

Be sure to take advantage of an affiliate network. These tools can help connect great advertisers to webmasters. Using an affiliate network will help your business grow. Be sure that the network is reputable before signing an agreement. Reputation is important when building your client base. By only doing business with other reputable sites, you can improve your standing in the eyes of your clients.

TIP! The importance of real-time statistics cannot be overstated. They give you a great deal of information on who and what your visitors are.

Make sure your product is advertised in a vast variety of different venues. Many people love to search for online products. Other people would rather see printed material such as a brochure. Many people will not buy anything unless they can get a good discount on it. If you vary your advertising techniques you will find the most success and reach more people.

Social Media

TIP! Make regular goals that you should achieve everyday to stay on track with your affiliate marketing plan. Seeing your task bar helps you stay motivated and focused on what needs to be done.

You should go with some social media when you are doing internet marketing, Google will recognize this. Google indexes market websites specifically for social media marketing. The biggest social networks, like Twitter and Facebook, pop up on virtually every page with options for social interaction.

TIP! If you have banner ads, you should put a trivia question on one and make it so that the user has to visit your site in order to get the answer. That banner with a question will tempt a lot of viewers into clicking.

Not every affiliate promotion website is the same. You will find that some are frustrating or just difficult to navigate. Do not allow affiliate sites that are poorly designed keep you from making money. This builds trust in customers and encourages them to purchase items.

There is a great variety in affiliate programs. Each offers a different product and level of flexibility.

TIP! Don?t depend on affiliate partners to keep your whole affiliate marketing campaign afloat. Try and promote a range of products with different affiliate companies.

Don?t clutter up your site with a lot of banners. Excessive banners reduce your website?s quality and appearance. They can feel intrusive and pushy to visitors, diminishing your professional credibility and causing some potential buyers to shop elsewhere. Your site should be mostly content, not banners, and the banners that are there should be spread out across the page.

TIP! Being part of an affiliate network will provide you with a great advantage. You will want to be connecting webmasters to the advertisers who will actually benefit them.

Lifetime affiliate commissions are much less common than they used to be. That shouldn?t stop you from the pursuit of them, however. When products that webmasters sent to their affiliate vendors are sold to customers, the vendors pay the webmasters a commission. Unfortunately, the commission is typically only paid for the first purchase so no commission is earned on any repeat orders. These arrangements are rare but are certainly worth looking for.

TIP! Choose affiliate companies that can pay your commissions through multiple channels. Payment options will vary from affiliate program to affiliate program.

Hire an accountant. There are software programs that can handle this if you do not want to hire a person. Having some knowledge of accounting is useful in determining whether or not you have been paid correctly. Set up your accounting before you start, be ready.

Affiliate Marketing

TIP! Pick a affiliate that boasts a high sales volume, you will make more money. Earning 1% is a good ratio to achieve.

Affiliate marketing can lead the way to a profitable business. Your well-developed sites are an investment that will pay off far into the future. Inflation hits five-month high of 2.7% | The Times

Inflation in Britain unexpectedly surged to its highest level in five months in October, adding to the pain for already hard-pressed households.

The Office for National Statistics said that consumer prices inflation jumped to 2.7 per cent last month, from 2.2 per cent in September. Analysts had expected a reading of 2.3 per cent.

The retail prices index, which is used as the benchmark for many wage deals, rose to 3.2 per cent, from 2.6 per cent.

The main upward pressure came from the rise in university tuition fees, with education costs jumping by 19.1 per cent last month, the

Governors call for renewing wind energy tax credit

The fate of a tax credit that advocates say is needed to maintain tens of thousands of wind energy jobs will be decided during high-stakes, last-minute negotiations between President Obama and House Republicans over fiscal issues, officials said Tuesday.

The wind energy production tax credit is due to expire at the end of the year. Its extension stalled in Congress this summer amid fierce opposition from some conservative House Republicans. The last chance to extend the measure is in the budget deal that will be cut between Obama and Republicans in the lame duck session of Congress.

Backers of the credit tried to ramp up pressure to extend the $12 billion break Tuesday with a teleconference featuring several governors, who noted that uncertainty over its fate has led to thousands of job losses across the country. A study by a wind energy group found that 37,000 jobs would be lost if the credit expires.

The credit's supporters say the government has subsidized fossil fuels like oil for more than a century. Opponents argue it distorts the energy marketplace and leads to higher prices.

The credit was first signed by President George H.W. Bush and backed by a number of prominent Republicans. But some conservative House Republicans objected to the extension of the latest form of the credit this summer, arguing it is wasteful spending. Their cause was taken up by the party's presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, who argued the credit should expire. Elimination of the break was written into the GOP party platform in August.

Still, Republicans governors Tom Branstad of Iowa and Sam Brownback of Kansas joined Democratic governors on Tuesday's call urging the credit's extension. They said they represented a bipartisan group of 28 governors who back the tax break.

"It is time to turn the page on the recent election and work together to get Americans back to work," Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, a Democrat, said in a statement

Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., who helped organize opposition to the wind tax credits, said the election results have emboldened him and other opponents to stand firm.

"There was a discussion in a lot of races around the country, and I didn't see a single race in which consumers were demanding higher electricity bills," Pompeo said. He added his opponent had attacked his stance on the credit, but Pompeo ended up winning the race by more votes than during his first campaign in 2010.

Wind energy companies already have started shrinking their workforces in the face of the gridlock.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has reduced its U.S. workforce by 20 percent. The company announced last week it plans to cut its global workforce by another 3,000 by the end of next year due to uncertainty over the tax credit.

Pope says world needs more (literary) Latin lovers

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - "Pro Dei amore Latinam linguam discite".

If you don't know what that means, Pope Benedict is on your case.

In fact, he's not only on your case, he's on your declension, your conjugation, your tense, your person, your voice and your mood.

"Pro Dei amore Latinam linguam discite" means "For the love of God, study Latin!" And that is what the pope wants to see more of.

At the weekend, he started a new Vatican department to promote the study and use of Latin in the Roman Catholic Church and beyond.

The Vatican said the pope, who is clearly the literary kind of Latin lover, had instituted the Pontifical Academy for Latin Studies, placing it under the auspices of the Vatican's ministry for culture.

He said Latin, which is still the official language of the universal Church, was the subject of renewed interest around the world and the academy was mandated to encourage further growth.

Catholic seminarians studying for the priesthood were weak in studies of the humanities in general and Latin in particular. They would benefit from a deeper knowledge of the language and be able to read ancient Church texts in the original, he said.

A string of modern-day popes have tried to give the ancient language a boost.

In 1962, Pope John XXIII published "Veterum Sapientia", a document aimed at promoting the study of Latin, and in 1976 Pope Paul VI started the Latin Foundation and its quarterly "Latinitas".

"PINBALL" IN LATIN

But those ventures met with mixed results at best and Benedict, who has allowed a partial return of the old-style Latin Mass that was phased out more than 40 years ago in favor of local languages, is giving it another try.

"It appears necessary to support a commitment to a greater understanding of the use of Latin, both in the Church and in the greater world of culture," he wrote in the letter setting up the academy.

The new academy's statutes, written, of course in Latin, say its goal is to promote both written and spoken Latin through publications, conferences, seminars, and performances.

Many attempts have been made in the past half century to revive Latin. Some have tried to bring the language of Cicero up to date by introducing neologisms, or new words for things that did not exist when Rome ruled most of the known world.

To fill the gap, Father Carlo Egger in 1992 published the "Lexicon Recentis Latinitas," a dictionary of modern things in ancient Latin.

Egger and a committee of experts and consultants of the Vatican's Latinitas Foundation, the precursor of the new Academy of Latin Studies, found a niche need and filled it. But the book never became a "liber maxime divenditus" (bestseller).

Egger and his committee came up with these gems: "machina linteorum lavatoria" (washing machine); "escariorum lavator" (dish washer); "autocinetorum lavatrix" (car wash) and "sphaeriludium electricum numismate actum" (pinball machine).

The authors' aim was to use existing Latin words wherever possible. So "sphaeriludium electricum numismate actum" actually meant "electric game with a ball put into motion by a coin", or pinball machine.

Other entries were "fluxus interclusio" for traffic jam and "exterioris paginae puella" for cover girl.

In 1988, Egger came up with a way to describe doping - something still topical today after Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France cycling titles.

His phrase? "Usus agonisticus medicamenti stupefactivi", or the sporting use of stupefying medicine.

(Foto AP/Lewis Whyld/PA Wire)

(AP) ? The BBC's top executive, George Entwistle, resigned Saturday night amid a flood of controversy over the broadcaster's handling of child sex-abuse cases.

His resignation caps a difficult month for the broadcaster, which first came under fire for not airing allegations of child sex abuse committed by one of its star hosts, the late Jimmy Savile. Just weeks later, the BBC's prestigious investigative program, "Newsnight," wrongly implicated a British politician in a child sex-abuse scandal.

It was the same program that had earlier shelved a report into Savile.

Here are key developments in the scandal:

Oct. 29, 2011: Longtime BBC children's television host Jimmy Savile dies at the age of 84. The eccentric, platinum haired entertainer, known for his garish tracksuits and Cuban cigars, is hailed as a true English eccentric when he is buried 10 days later. He had received a knighthood and numerous other honors.

December 2011: The long-trusted and publicly funded BBC pulls a "Newsnight" program that would have linked Savile to the repeated sexual abuse of children during his career at the broadcaster. Instead, the BBC shows tribute programs praising Savile, who had been active in numerous charities.

Sept. 17, 2012: George Entwistle named BBC director general, succeeding Mark Thompson, who is becoming chief executive of The New York Times Co. in November.

Oct. 2, 2012: "Newsnight" editor Peter Rippon writes a blog post saying the Savile program was shelved for editorial reasons, denies it was part of any BBC cover-up.

Oct. 3, 2012: The extended media silence about Savile's sex abuse is broken with a documentary by the BBC's main commercial rival, ITV. The broadcast exposes the dark side of Savile's life, which had been rumored but not documented. The show prompts a probe by police, which later leads to a formal criminal investigation into alleged sexual abuse by Savile and others.

Oct. 12, 2012: With the police investigation producing many new leads, BBC director general George Entwistle announces the broadcaster will launch an official review of its culture and practices at the time of Savile's offenses and investigate why the earlier "Newsnight" program was shelved.

Oct. 22, 2013: A BBC "Panorama" show airs, with reporters quizzing senior management about why they canned the bombshell program on Savile. BBC says Peter Rippon, "Newsnight" editor, will step aside pending an investigation into his decision to scrap the Savile story. The broadcaster also issues a correction to Rippon's previous blog post, calling it "inaccurate."

Oct. 23, 2013: Entwistle appears before British lawmakers to address the BBC's handling of the Savile crisis. He acknowledged there had been "a problem of culture within the BBC" that allowed Savile's behavior to go unchecked. The BBC also said it is investigating claims of sexual abuse and harassment against nine staff members and contributors, in addition to Savile.

Oct. 25, 2012: Metropolitan Police say there may be 300 potential victims of Savile and his associates as abuse reports increase. Savile is identified as one of the worst sex offenders in British history.

Oct. 28, 2012: Police arrest former glam rock star and convicted sex offender Gary Glitter as part of the investigation into Savile and his associates.

Nov. 2, 2012: BBC's "Newsnight" show broadcasts an expose about child sex abuse in Wales in the 1970s and 1980s that includes allegations about an unnamed senior politician from the Margaret Thatcher era.

Nov. 9, 2012: Alistair McAlpine, a Conservative party member of the House of Lords named in Internet chatter as the culprit, comes forward to deny the charges and threaten legal action against the BBC. The person who made the accusations in the "Newsnight" broadcast, Steve Messham, then apologizes and said it was a case of mistaken identity. BBC apologizes and suspends "Newsnight" investigations.

Nov. 10, 2012: BBC's top executive, director-general George Entwistle, resigns after his attempts to explain and apologize for the situation fail to quell mounting criticism of the flagship broadcaster's handling of the sex abuse scandal.

Iran to probe alleged death of a jailed blogger

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Iran's parliament announced Sunday it would probe reports that a jailed blogger died suspiciously in custody earlier this week, the official IRNA news agency reported.

This is Iran's first official reaction to the alleged death of Sattar Beheshti, in a rare example of parliament taking up allegations of human rights abuses first raised internationally. The case gained publicity over the weekend when U.S. State Department and a press freedom group called for an inquiry.

Deputy parliamentary speaker Mohammad Hasan Abutorabifard said that the legislature's influential committee on national security and foreign policy has been assigned to look into Beheshti's alleged death.

"The committee has been informed about the incident and its report will be announced to the nation and lawmakers," IRNA quoted Aboutorabifard as saying.

The announcement came after a speech by lawmaker Ahmad Tavakoli, a prominent conservative critic of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in the open session of the parliament that was broadcast on state radio, in which he criticized officials for their silence over a case that has received international attention.

"Why do the Foreign Ministry and judiciary not explain this? A death has happened and it should be explained," said Tavakoli.

"How can summoning a blogger (for questioning) be useful? Why do you generate expenses for the Islamic system?" he said.

He urged authorities to look for "corrupt" officials who have been involved in the case, instead of mistreating bloggers.

Lawmaker Ebrahim Nekou, who represents Beheshti's hometone of Robat Karim, also protested the alleged death. "I want to express my objection to killing of a blogger in my constituency while asking why the case was not announced to the officials of the town and to me."

The 35-year-old Beheshti was reportedly a factory worker. He was not a well-known activist.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said Saturday that Iranian authorities must release full details of the "suspicious death," and the State Department has also called for a probe.

Dozens of bloggers and journalists have been arrested amid widespread crackdowns in Iran in recent years.

In 2010, Iran's parliament played a major role in probing the deaths in detention of three people during the unrest that followed disputed 2009 elections. The probe led to the dismissal of several judicial and police officials.

Daily Chronicle | Claims about flood-ruined cars aren't true

DETROIT ? In the days since Superstorm Sandy, an alarming prediction has flashed across the Internet: Hundreds of thousands of flood-damaged vehicles will inundate the nation?s used-car market, and buyers might not be told which cars have been marred.

Not true, according to insurance-claims data reviewed by The Associated Press. The actual number of affected vehicles is far smaller, and some of those cars will be repaired and kept by their owners. The dire predictions are being spread by a company that sells vehicle title and repair histories and by the largest group representing American car dealers.

They claim the number of cars damaged by Sandy could be larger than when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005 and marred more than 600,000 vehicles. But an AP analysis of claims data supplied by major insurance companies shows the number of cars reported damaged so far is a fraction of that.

The companies ? State Farm, Progressive, New Jersey Manufacturers and Nationwide ? have received about 31,000 car-damage claims.

?It?s not anything near what we?re talking about in the Katrina situation,? said James Appleton, president of the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers, a statewide association of more than 500 dealers.

Frank Scafidi, a spokesman for the National Insurance Crime Bureau, an insurance company group that monitors fraud and other trends, concurred, saying insurers watched by his group are logging far fewer claims than they did with Katrina.

?It doesn?t translate to there?s going to be 2, 3, 400,000 cars out of this thing just because this is such a huge geographic storm,? Scafidi said.

Other large insurers, such as Farmers, Allstate, Geico, Liberty Mutual and USAA, either did not return calls or declined to release claims information.

Because many communities are still cleaning up from the superstorm, more claims are bound to come in. But the total is not likely to grow significantly. Ten days after Sandy, the rate of claim submissions is already starting to slow. And many of those cars will have relatively minor damage unrelated to water, meaning they can be fixed and returned to their owners.

About 14,000 new cars were also damaged by Sandy while they sat on docks in the New York area awaiting shipment to dealers. But most of those vehicles won?t end up on sales lots. Automakers will have severely damaged cars crushed because they don?t want their brand name hurt by substandard vehicles circulating in the marketplace.

To be sure, flood-damaged cars can be a serious problem. Once a vehicle is dried out, the damage may not be immediately apparent, so the car can often be sold to an unsuspecting buyer.

Beneath the surface, the water can damage computers that control everything from the gas pedal to the entertainment system. Saltwater, like that from Sandy?s storm surge, is especially harmful, causing corrosion in electrical and mechanical parts that can pose problems for years.

Companies like Carfax, a Centreville, Va., provider of vehicle-history reports, stand to benefit if more buyers are worried about the risk of purchasing a flooded car. The company charges $39.99 for a single report, although it also contracts with dealers and manufacturers, so many reports cost less. About 170 million reports are viewed each year.

Carfax, a privately held subsidiary of the R.L. Polk & Co. automotive data firm, put out a news release Tuesday speculating that Sandy?s toll on cars would exceed the damage left by Katrina.

In an interview, company spokesman Larry Gamache said early indications were that more vehicles could have been damaged in the densely populated Northeast than were damaged by Katrina in 2005 along the more sparsely populated Gulf Coast. He estimated that half of them, more than 300,000, would find their way back onto the market as used cars.

?I think it?s partly due to the breadth of the storm and the intensity of the storm and where the storm hit,? Gamache said.

A spokeswoman for Experian, which runs a Carfax competitor called AutoCheck, said the area that got blasted by Sandy has 9 million registered cars, far more than in the Gulf region struck by Katrina.

On Wednesday, the National Automobile Dealers Association put out a statement estimating that 200,000 or more flooded cars could be resold as used.

The trade organization warned that the storm could crimp the supply of clean used cars, potentially driving up prices. But its estimate was based on reports from third parties that showed 600,000 cars were damaged in Katrina and that Sandy would cause about one-third of the dollar damage from Katrina.

?There was not an incredible amount of science behind it,? conceded Jonathan Banks, executive automotive analyst with the NADA Used Car Guide.

Katrina overwhelmed low-lying areas of the Gulf Coast, including New Orleans, which is below sea level, causing widespread flooding. Many people in Katrina?s path didn?t evacuate, and car dealers didn?t have many options to protect inventories.

In hard-hit New Jersey, flooding from Sandy was mainly confined to a strip along the coast from Atlantic City to New York, and most people evacuated those areas, Appleton said.

In the western part of the state, ?unless a tree fell on your car, your car wasn?t even at risk,? he said.

Chris Basso, another Carfax spokesman, said the company relied on an estimate from a trusted industry source in putting out its news release. He said it was just an estimate, and the final number won?t be known for a while.

?All we?re trying to do is make sure people are looking out for these cars,? he said. ?Because eventually they?re going to make their way back onto the road.?

Regardless of the predictions, thousands of flood-damaged cars will certainly be resold, and buyers need to be cautious.

Unlike the automakers who destroy badly damaged inventory, dealers, insurance companies and others often resell flooded cars to recoup their losses.

If the cars were declared total losses by insurance companies, states require them to get new titles branding them as flood-damaged vehicles. But some sellers don?t disclose that, and some even move the cars from state to state to wash the branding off the titles.

So even if the numbers are far smaller than the estimates, anyone buying a used car in the coming months should check the title and repair history and have the car inspected by a mechanic. Buyers can also do their own inspection, sniffing for musty odors and checking for mud and debris under the dashboard.

?People just have to be a little smart about this,? said Scafidi, of the insurance company group. But he added, ?We don?t want to sit here and say the sky is falling.?

Seven tips for avoiding a flood-damaged car:

? Run the car?s vehicle identification number through Carfax at www.carfax.com, AutoCheck at www.autocheck.com, or VinCheck at www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck. The services can usually tell you if a car?s been damaged or if it?s been totaled by an insurance company.

? Have the car inspected by a mechanic, who can put it on a lift and check the undercarriage for water damage or debris from flood waters.

? Check the interior yourself for signs of water damage. Sniff for a musty smell. Look for signs of freshly shampooed carpet. Check under the floorboard carpet for water residue, rust, or water stain marks. Look under the dashboard for dried mud or other flood residue. Check for rust on screws in the console and other areas where water wouldn?t normally be present.

? Check the trunk for moldy smells, water stains, rust or debris.

? Look under the hood for mud or grit in the alternator, behind wires and around small openings in starter motors and power steering pumps.

? Follow wires to check for signs of rust, water residue or corrosion.

? Check the undercarriage for evidence of rust or flaking metal that wouldn?t normally be on newer vehicles.

Russia's MegaFon gets nod for $2 billion IPO: sources

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's No.2 mobile phone company, MegaFon , is likely to go ahead with its planned stock market float in London this year after receiving an unofficial green light from the UK regulator, sources familiar with the matter said.?

MegaFon had aimed to raise around $2 billion from its initial public offering this year, but several sources have said it would have to delay the share sale until 2013 if it did not get the nod from the UK Listing Authority (UKLA) in time.

MegaFon has cleared and resolved any material issues with the UKLA, a source familiar with the situation said on Saturday. Official approval is expected when MegaFon's IPO prospectus has been completed, the source said.

?The company is expected to make a formal statement on the IPO launch in the coming weeks. The deal could happen in late November or early December, before capital markets wind down for the end of the year, sources have said.

The float by MegaFon, which is controlled by Russia's richest man Alisher Usmanov, would rank as the biggest by a Russian company since Internet search firm Yandex raised $1.4 billion when it floated in New York in May 2011.

LISTING CRITERIA

The UKLA approves an IPO prospectus when it is satisfied a company has met its listing criteria. Among issues the UKLA typically examines is the shareholder structure. Any particular concerns are typically listed in the 'risks' section of the prospectus.

Usmanov told Reuters in September that he would fold his stake in MegaFon and other assets into a new holding company, co-owned by one of his partners Vladimir Skoch, father of billionaire Russian lawmaker Andrei Skoch, who helped build up iron ore miner Metalloinvest.?

?Goldman Sachs dropped out as an underwriter of the IPO in October, which one source familiar with the situation said at the time was over unspecified shareholding concerns that were not related to Usmanov.?

?The UKLA was now satisfied with the information provided with regard to the new holding company structure, one of the sources said.

?The UKLA gave the go-ahead for the offering on Friday, said a second source familiar with the situation, meaning the float can happen this year. A third market source also said the IPO had received the green light but gave no more details.?

?A fourth source familiar with the matter said work still remained to be done on the prospectus, indicating a final sign off may not yet have been received.

?"We intend to complete the IPO this year and that will be on the basis of an approved prospectus from the UKLA," said a spokesman for MegaFon. He declined to comment further.?

?A spokesman for the UKLA declined comment.?

MegaFon announced plans for the offering in early October but later said it would put off launching the roadshow until it had published its third-quarter results.

Those results, released on Thursday showed gains in revenues, earnings and margins that analysts said would boost MegaFon's goal of achieving a valuation comparable with its competitors, MTS and VimpelCom .

Sources have said a stake of around 15 percent in MegaFon could be offered to investors in London and Moscow, with Nordic telecoms firm Teliasonera selling down its stake.

MegaFon also plans to pay down some of the debts it took in on in a restructuring deal in April that saw tycoon Mikhail Fridman exit the business and Usmanov secure overall control.

What?s cool? As always, Rovio Mobile has put together a nicely polished puzzle experience in Angry Birds Star Wars that finds humor in its references, but manages to use Star Wars tropes and elements to alter the Angry Birds formula in some great ways. As always, you fling birds at structures to destroy pigs, but you?ll have blasters, lightsabers and the Force to contend with, too.

Who?s it for? Fans of Angry Birds, casual games and Star Wars all will find a lot to love here.

What?s it like? If you haven?t tried the stellar Angry Birds Space, you really should. Miniclip?s Siege Hero is similar to the Angry Birds formula as well, but takes a first-person perspective.

Elder Care:- Health Desires That Must Definitely Be Seen To.

Posted by Editor on Nov 9, 2012 in Featured Articles

Just like any other person, aged people tense up when they start to fall. Nevertheless if you're able to demonstrate to your elder the right way to fully relax and fall like a rag doll would, the prospects of reducing the scale of injury is seriously augmented. Take time to demonstrate this by falling into a chair or a bed. Simply go limp as you fall. It's a comfort and a relief to our customers and their families to grasp that they usually have a resource of experienced, well informed, supportive, and aim consultants with them each step along the way. The Life Care Plan protects and preserves the assets you have amassed during a life of tough work, frugal behaviour, and shrewd investment decision-making.

3rd , helping you find resources to pay for good care, and helping you spend your cash cleverly and prudently on your care requirements. We're employed with you thru the maze of selections and options to get the best, or regularly the best response to the asset protection problem made by the necessity to pay for quality long term care. What medical care, protracted care, and long term care services are open to me? How is It possible to get the good care I need and want, whether I'm in my very own home, a controlled living facility, in a child?s home, or in a retirement home? How will monetary and medicare choices be made for me if I won't make them for myself? Who am I able to depend on to be sure that calls to be made are the right ones? If I can not look after myself, who will ensure my partner continues to have a good standard of living? If there's a medicare crisis, what will we've got to do? Where do we turn for the help we need? How do I'm aware That I am getting good care? Who will advocate and arbitrate for me when necessary to guarantee my right to quality medical care and long term care? What public benefits am I entitled to and what have I got to do to be accepted for them? Should I depend on Medicaid or other government benefits to help in paying for my care? How do I make an application for benefits? Have I got to spend all of my cash on my care, whether in my home or in a retirement home? How am I able to protect my assets to look after my partner, to make sure I receive quality care, or to leave to my youngsters? How do I provide for family members with special needs? Your Life Care Plan will be customised to fit your wishes and wants. Experience means a carer must fit for the position to worry with respect to some illness conditions and some medical issues they may potentially have. This is a very important quality when selecting somebody to take care of an old. It's a necessity for them to have experiences before selecting them. You want to go looking for someone that is basically a good listener and will definitely be pleased to be there for the aged. Carers do have nervousness and depression. Some resent the responsibility, but then feel guilt over the antagonism.

Some companies are friendly toward adult custodians of old elders, but some staff have not progressed to that point yet. You may be missing time from work, just as you do when you have to remain home because a kid is sick. Before a pro counsels a product they ought to be educated so that they can aid in educating others particularly the user. This is one reason products are inappropriately selected and how questions of safety are made. We do not have safety and efficiency issues because those suggesting products are well capable in the difficulties. We want to inspire pros to learn lots more about the devices they like to recommend so that they can match the device to user wants and conditions.

Fossils and genes brought together to piece together evolutionary history

ScienceDaily (Nov. 7, 2012) ? Paleontology, with its rocks and fossils, seems far removed from the world of developmental genetics, with its petri dishes and embryos. Whereas paleontology strives to determine "What happened in evolution?," developmental genetics uses gene control in embryos to try to answer "How did it happen?" Combined, the two approaches can lead to remarkable insights that benefit both fields.

In the current issue of the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, Hans Thewissen, Ingalls-Brown Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), and his colleagues review recent studies that have used modern genetic techniques to shed light on fossils, and vice versa. "It is a very exciting time to be an evolutionary scientist. So many researchers are investigating evolution, either by finding new fossils or by figuring out the genes that underlie changes in evolution. Now it is possible to combine those two fields and go beyond what each field could have accomplished on its own," said Dr. Thewissen.

Their review discusses the profound evolutionary changes that brought about some of the more spectacular animals of today and the past, including dolphins, whales, snakes, bats, elephants, and dinosaurs. For instance, although the transition from a four-legged ancestor to something with only two forelimbs, like a dolphin, or no limbs at all, like a snake, may seem like a big leap, transitional fossils have been discovered that bridge these gaps. Additionally, using developmental genetics, researchers have come to understand that these large changes in shape involved relatively small changes in the working of just of few genes.

Perhaps even more fascinating, recent research has discovered that similarly shaped organisms may not have experienced similar developmental changes in their past. Cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and snakes both lost limbs independently from their respective ancestors through evolution, but they did so in different ways. Snakes lost their forelimbs by basically getting rid of their neck region and leaving no room for forelimbs. During snake embryonic development, no limb buds form in that region of the body. Snakes do still develop hind limb buds as embryos, but the genes that control their growth have been knocked out through the course of evolution, so hind limbs do not develop (except for small stubs in some snakes like pythons). This demonstrates that different developmental mechanisms can be at work even in the evolutionary history of a single animal. Whales and dolphins lost their hind limbs in a process similar to that of snakes.

Dr. Thewissen says, "For me personally, as someone who has spent most of his life studying fossil whales, it is very exciting to be able to use information from the development of living mammals, and use it to teach me about how whale evolution happened, 50 million years ago."

Scientists can even modify the genetic code of living animals to replicate changes that have been observed in the fossil record. As explained in the paper, it has been shown that heightened activity of a particular gene in mouse embryos causes their teeth to grow larger. A similar change occurred during the course of elephant evolution -- early elephants had teeth less than an inch long, while modern elephants have teeth over a foot in length. The genetic changes that brought about this increase in size in elephants may have resembled the ones induced in lab mice.

This sort of cross-pollination of biological disciplines was once rare but is increasingly common. The paper was co-authored with Lisa Noelle Cooper, also of NEOMED, and Richard R. Behringer of the Department of Genetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Cooper said, "At a time when most of science is hyper-specialized, my hope is that the newest generations of scientists are able and unafraid to approach research questions using a variety of techniques."

Self-imagination can enhance memory in healthy and memory-impaired individuals

ScienceDaily (Nov. 7, 2012) ? There's no question that our ability to remember informs our sense of self. Now research published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, provides new evidence that the relationship may also work the other way around: Invoking our sense of self can influence what we are able to remember.

Research has shown that self-imagination -- imagining something from a personal perspective -- can be an effective strategy for helping us to recognize something we've seen before or retrieve specific information on cue. And these beneficial effects have been demonstrated for both healthy adults and for individuals who suffer memory impairments as a result of brain injury.

These findings suggest that self-imagination is a promising strategy for memory rehabilitation. But no study has investigated the effect of self-imagination on what is perhaps the most difficult, and most relevant, type of memory: free recall.

Psychological scientists Matthew Grilli and Elizabeth Glisky of the University of Arizona decided to put self-imagination to the test. They wanted to compare self-imagination to more traditional strategies that involve sense of self in order to gain a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms that might be at work.

The researchers recruited 15 patients with acquired brain injury who had impaired memory and 15 healthy participants with normal memory to take part in the study. Over the course of the study, the participants were asked to memorize five lists of 24 adjectives that described personality traits. As they were presented with each personality trait, the participants were instructed to employ one of five strategies: think of a word that rhymes with the trait (baseline), think of a definition for the trait (semantic elaboration), think about how the trait describes them (semantic self-referential processing), think of a time when they acted out the trait (episodic self-referential processing), or imagine acting out the trait (self-imagining).

For all participants, healthy and memory-impaired, self-imagination boosted free recall of the personality traits more than any of the other strategies did.

Comparing the more traditional self-referential strategies, Grilli and Glisky found that the participants with memory impairments were better able to remember a word if they were asked to think about how well it described them (semantic) than if they were asked to think about a time when they acted out the personality trait (episodic).

This result falls in line with previous findings that knowledge about specific events from the past is often impaired in patients with brain injury. It also lends support to the researchers' hypothesis that the benefit of self-imagination for memory-impaired patients might be related to their ability to retrieve knowledge regarding their own personality traits, identity roles, and lifetime periods.

The researchers believe that their findings could have important applications for memory rehabilitation.

"Based on the results of our laboratory research," Grilli said, "it might be possible to adapt self-imagination to help patients with memory problems remember information encountered in everyday life, such as what they read in a book or heard on the news."

Self-imagination could also help clinicians in teaching memory-impaired individuals how to use memory aides that can enhance their independence. For example, this approach could help improve their ability to remember to program and consistently use smartphones to manage everyday errands, such as taking medication, purchasing items at a grocery store, or attending social events. Self-imagination could also be used to help individuals suffering from brain injury learn complex skills in order to return to the workplace.

"An important future step will be to investigate how to most effectively apply self-imagination in a rehabilitation program to make a meaningful impact on the lives of people with memory impairment," Grilli said.

Grilli and Glisky conclude that the possible applications of their findings are quite broad since episodic memory deficits are linked with various conditions, including autism, depression, and normal aging.

Spot the space station over your backyard with new NASA service

ScienceDaily (Nov. 7, 2012) ? On the 12th anniversary of crews continuously living and working aboard the International Space Station, NASA announced Nov. 2 a new service to help people see the orbiting laboratory when it passes overhead. "Spot the Station" will send an email or text message to those who sign up for the service a few hours before they will be able to see the space station.

"It's really remarkable to see the space station fly overhead and to realize humans built an orbital complex that can be spotted from Earth by almost anyone looking up at just the right moment," said William Gerstenmaier, NASA's associate administrator for human exploration and operations. "We're accomplishing science on the space station that is helping to improve life on Earth and paving the way for future exploration of deep space."

When the space station is visible -- typically at dawn and dusk -- it is the brightest object in the night sky, other than the moon. On a clear night, the station is visible as a fast moving point of light, similar in size and brightness to the planet Venus. "Spot the Station" users will have the options to receive alerts about morning, evening or both types of sightings.

The International Space Station's trajectory passes over more than 90 percent of Earth's population. The service is designed to only notify users of passes that are high enough in the sky to be easily visible over trees, buildings and other objects on the horizon. NASA's Johnson Space Center calculates the sighting information several times a week for more than 4,600 locations worldwide, all of which are available on "Spot the Station."

Nov. 2 marks 12 years of continuous human habitation of the space station.

To sign up for "Spot the Station," visit: http://spotthestation.nasa.gov

Still undecided or need a little more guidance? Well, if that?s you, then read on for CNET?s expert advice on how to buy the nest cell phone for you.

Three key phone shopping essentials

1. Don?t be a cell phone cheapskate

Because of the way most people buy phones in the U.S. ? under a two-year contract ? chances are that once you commit to a handset, you?ll probably have it for a while. Unless you?re buying an unlocked device that?s not subsidized or a basic feature phone, it makes sense to spend as much as you can. This will help your handset stay fresh for a long time.

2. Know what phone features you want

2. Know what phone features you want

If you understand exactly what skills and abilities you?d like to see in your new phone, it?ll help you avoid paying too much for features you don?t want or need.

3. Find the right design

Buying a cell phone means entering a deeply personal relationship with a highly portable physical object. That?s why you should think hard about how it?s designed, since you and it will be spending plenty of quality time together. Make sure you?re comfortable with the way it looks and feels in-hand, and make sure it reflects your sense of style. This holds true whether you use a sleek iPhone, cutting-edge Android, simple flip, or armor-plated rugged handset.

Smartphones

At the top of today?s handset pecking order is the smartphone. These devices typically have the most power and top-notch components such as processors, memory, screens, and connections to fast wireless data. By definition they run true mobile operating systems such as Apple?s iOS, Google?s Android, and Microsoft?s Windows Phone. They also support downloadable applications via virtual stores tied to their associated software platforms. Because of all their capabilities, smartphones are usually the most expensive phones on the market.

Messaging or feature phones

One step below smartphones, feature phones strive to offer many of the same abilities that their more pricey siblings do. Instead of popular mobile operating systems, these gadgets run proprietary software crafted by hardware manufacturers ? for example, Samsung or LG. Many feature phones tend to be made primarily for text messaging and e-mail, sporting full QWERTY physical keyboards.

Basic phones

There are plenty of people who have no interest in viewing full desktop-quality Web pages or running apps on their mobile device. Simply put, they just want a phone for making, well, phone calls. For these folks a basic phone fits the bill. While basic handsets have been eclipsed by smartphones, they?re uncomplicated, use traditional simple keypads, and are designed to one thing. That?s to make and receive voice calls reliably and with excellent audio quality. Key components

Key consideration points

Screen size

Large screens (4.7 to 5.5 inches)

The current rage among mobile phone design, especially in advanced Android smartphones, is having a massive display. We consider any handset with a screen of 4.7 inches or greater to be on the top end both in terms of physical size and display dimensions. Some gadgets such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (5.5 inches) and LG Intuition (5 inches) push the screen real estate envelope to new heights, almost reaching a tablet level of functionality and girth. Keep in mind, however, that while devices with larger screen offers a bigger view, they are also harder to manipulate in one hand and can be uncomfortable to hold for long periods when you?re making a call.

Medium screens (4 to 4.5 inches)

Sitting in the cell phone size sweet spot are devices with screens ranging from 4 to 4.5 inches. Phones in this middle category typically strive to balance the high degree of engagement and entertainment a larger display brings while still remaining practical. Motorola?s Droid Razr M and Apple?s iPhone 5 are good examples of this approach, offering large hi-resolution screens that users can grip with one hand and whose thumbs comfortably reach all portions of the display.

Small screens (under 4 inches)

Thanks to the swelling number of gargantuan smartphones hitting store shelves, compact cell phones are a shrinking segment of the mobile handset market. That said, some people still place portability highest on their list of phone features. If you?re one of these individuals then we suggest limiting your shopping to devices that have screens that are 4 inches or less. Models such as these, like the HTC One V for example, are the most pocket-friendly, yet they manage to pack the hefty capability punch that Android can throw. For more on specific display technologies, check out the deeper dive section at the end of this guide.

Processor

The beating heart of any phone is its processor or CPU. It provides the computing power to churn through tasks, like opening and running applications. A fast processor also has a big impact on overall performance, like how smoothly a phone handles flipping through menus and running home screens. Traditionally, clock speed, listed in GHz, has been the quick way to judge CPU prowess. These days a chip?s architecture, specifically how many computing cores it has, is becoming a more reliable predictor. Another factor is that older processors tend to use less efficient designs, making them worse performers and harder on batteries than their newer counterparts. We talk more about processors below.

Camera

A phone?s camera depends on a whole host of variables. Though you might think that more megapixels is better, that?s not always the case. You can get sharper images from a 5-megapixel camera than from an 8-megapixel shooter so it?s better to concentrate on other specs. Read on and see the bottom section for more details.

There are other factors to keep in mind, though, such as the quality of the lens, which could aid the sensor by exposing it to more light. The sensor itself might also offer a lower pixel count, but be more sensitive to illumination, resulting in better performance under low-light conditions.

Many phones ship with fancy image processors ? such as those from HTC and Nokia ? which promise high image quality plus the horsepower to drive the camera and auto focusing systems faster. The end result is nimble shot-to-shot times with no shutter lag.

Battery

If your cell phone battery conks out, all the snazzy features in the world won?t be able to help you. Manufacturers have begun to recognize the critical importance of battery life and are squeezing greater capacity batteries into their phones. Typical phone batteries range from 1,700mAh capacities and go all the way up to 3,300mAh.

Manufacturers also list battery performance in terms of talk time, standby time, or by how many hours you can expect a device to perform tasks such as playing video and music.

Wireless carriers

Choosing a wireless carrier is perhaps the most difficult aspect of shopping for a cell phone. In many cases you don?t have much of a choice since you?re likely locked into a two-year contract and will pay a hefty early-termination fee if you cancel before your time is up. That said, when selecting a carrier, first on your list of criteria should be coverage. You?ll want carrier with decent coverage in your home, at work, and all the places in between. For more about carriers and networks, see the next section.

Figure out if you?ll be sticking to urban centers or trekking through rural areas often. Perhaps you won?t even leave your home neighborhood often or, to the contrary, plan on doing plenty of international trips. With your wireless usage in mind, settle on a carrier that offers coast-to-coast coverage (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile). Alternatively, you may be satisfied with a regional carrier that covers a limited area.

Cellular networks and 4G data

Equally as sophisticated as the devices themselves, though, is the wireless network technology they connect to. A veritable alphabet soup of acronyms and industry buzz words, you could spend an eternity studying how cellular infrastructure is constructed, let alone the physics and computer science needed to describe how everything operates. Grasping all that is overkill, however, if all you want is to buy a satisfying phone. Here?s a basic overview of what you need to know.

CDMA

CDMA stands for code division multiple access, but more importantly it?s a method for how cellular radios transmit and receive voice and data. This standard is found mostly in America and to some extent Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea. Major U.S. carriers that use wireless networks based on CDMA are Verizon and Sprint. Other carriers, such as T-Mobile and AT&T rely on the GSM standard, which is more widely deployed across the globe.

GSM

GSM, aka the Global System for Mobile Communications, or first referred to originally in French as Group Special Mobile, is a standard created for use in Europe. GSM then spread to other corners of the world, with carriers operating GSM networks across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

HSPA+Based on the older High Speed Packet Access, which topped out at 3G speeds, Evolved HSPA or HSPA+ supports a theoretical peak download throughput of 168Mbps. This may sound pretty fast but in practice the protocol delivers data speeds just marginally faster than 3G, and average download speeds of approximately 3 to 5Mbps. That causes us to think of it as really a 3.5G wireless solution. U.S. carriers who implement HSPA+ include T-Mobile and AT&T.

LTE

No doubt the buzz phrase that gets tossed around with abandon by phone makers and cellular providers alike is 4G. Technically a marketing term and not a hard universal standard, 4G refers to data networks that are touted to provide ?fourth-generation? wireless technology. At the backbone of American carriers? move to 4G is LTE, or Long Term Evolution, infrastructure trumpeted to offer blistering real-world download speeds. In our experience both AT&T?s and Verizon?s 4G LTE services deliver download speeds of about 15 to 20Mbps and sometimes faster. Of course carrier deployment of LTE centers around large metropolitan areas, so finding access to a signal may prove tricky.

Screen technologies

LCD

Short for liquid crystal display, LCD screens have come a long way from the alarm clocks and digital wrist watches of the 1980s. Today?s smartphone LCDs offer HD resolutions of 1,280?720 pixels or higher and in sizes of up to 4.7 inches. Traditional weakness of LCD technology has been its use of an external backlight for illumination. This results is shallow viewing angles and lower contrast compared with AMOLED displays.

Retina

Apple uses what it calls Retina Displays in its latest iPhones. Essentially this is a clever marketing phrase to say the iPhone (both the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5) sport LCD screens with 326 pixels per inch . Of course as a way to describe screen quality, ppi isn?t quite cut and dry. Samsung?s Galaxy S III for example has a lower ppi of 306 but has a larger display and higher resolution (1,280?720, 4.8 inches).

AMOLED Long billed as the screen technology destined to replace LCD, active matrix organic light-emitting diode displays (AMOLED) use organic chemicals as the material to generate light. Much like neon light fixtures and plasma HDTV screens, AMOLED displays use OLEDs to create light when they're exposed to an electric current. Since they don't rely on backlights for illumination, AMOLED screens tend to have higher contrast and more-vibrant colors than LCDs. LCDs use liquid crystals to twist shut and block out light from LEDs placed behind them.

Processors

Qualcomm Snapdragon

The current CPU smartphone king, at least for Android devices, is the Snapdragon family of processors. The 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 powers high-octane devices such as Motorola?s Droid Razr Maxx HD, Sony Xperia TL, and the Samsung Galaxy S III. The new 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro found in the new LG Nexus 4 serves up even more processing oomph.

Apple A6 The A6 is Apple's latest wafer of processing silicon to grace the company's newest handset, the iPhone 5. So far all we know about the A6 is that Apple says it's twice as fast as the A5 chip that powered the iPhone 4S.

Samsung Exynos

As well as displays and memory components, Samsung makes its own processors under the Exynos brand. Its most recent Exynos chip, the 1.5GHz quad-core Exynos, gives the Galaxy Note II its muscle and is one of the first phones to lean on four computing cores.

Operating system and software platform

iOS

Ever since the first iPhone, iOS has been the software powering Apple mobile devices. The current version, iOS 6, notably made waves when it dropped support for Google Maps in favor of Apple?s own Map solution.

Android

Though it had a later start than Apple?s iOS, Google?s Android operating system has taken the lead both in terms of the number of products it powers and the number of individual users who rely on it. Android?s freshest version, 4.2 Jelly Bean, only officially runs on the LG Nexus 4 but is sure to land on other phone models soon. Hopefully we won?t have to wait too long.

Windows Phone

Microsoft has been trying to convince phone users to buy devices running its software for almost a decade. The company?s upcoming Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system is the most compelling yet with its new support for HD screens, multicore processors, and NFC. That said, the amount and caliber of applications WP8 boasts doesn?t match the Android and iOS competition.

BlackBerry

RIM, the makers of the once premier BlackBerry mobile communication devices, has been down on its luck lately. While many RIM owners in the U.S. have jumped ship and landed in either the Android or iPhone camp, the company hopes to reverse its fortunes with BlackBerry 10. BB10 is expected to provide a much improved interface, browsing, and application-friendly platform than RIMs aging BB7 products. You?ll have to wait, though, since BB10 won?t arrive until early 2013.

Cutting-edge phone features

NFC

Short for near field communication, NFC is a technology that has found its was into most current smartphone product lines except the iPhone 5. NFC enables fast data exchanges between devices over short distances, just by tapping handsets together. While NFC is behind solutions such as Google Wallet mobile payments and Android Beam, it?s not clear if there is strong consumer demand yet for NFC. One application that looks compelling is the ability for NFC to make pairing with other wireless devices, such as speakers and headphones via Bluetooth, simpler and more hassle-free.

Quad-core processing

The CPU arms race once solely the domain of desktop and laptop computers has arrived to smartphones in earnest. First mobile processors with dual-core designs, or two dedicated processing centers on a single chip, will soon be eclipsed by silicon with four discrete cores.

Wireless charging

Wireless charging isn?t a new ability. Toothbrushes and other household appliances have been able to perform this trick for years. It?s been slow to catch on with phones, however, despite the greater need of constant power on the go. Hopefully the Nokia Lumia 920 will change things for the better. Not only is this Windows Phone 8 handset able to pair with accessories in a snap via Bluetooth aided by NFC, the gadget supports for inductive charging too. Simply place the phone on accessories like pillows, mats, and counter tops to power up, sans cords.

Bluetooth and hands-free audio

Connecting mobile phones to accessories such as hands-free headsets has been available for years. Bluetooth is changing with the times, though, supporting new gadgets such as wireless stereo headsets and fitness trackers like the Fitbit Zip and Fitbit One. Additionally, Bluetooth version 4 promises to greatly improve battery life in supporting wireless phone accessories.
