INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves called IndyCar race director Brian Barnhart a "circus clown" during a Twitter rant last week and that cost him $30,000 on Tuesday.
The three-time Indianapolis 500 winner was fined and put on probation after complaining about a penalty imposed on the final lap at Japan, making him the first driver in series history to be disciplined for comments posted on Twitter.
And it was there on the social network that he responded to Tuesday's fine.
"At this point, I think it's best to just put this situation behind me and move forward," he wrote. "We have a big race this weekend and my focus now is getting back on track and behind the wheel of the No. 3 Team Penske car as we try to defend our win from last season at Kentucky Speedway."
In Japan, Barnhart dropped Castroneves from seventh to 22nd place after he made a pass under yellow. The driver acknowledged his maneuver was illegal but said he should've received a one-spot penalty.
When Castroneves learned of the penalty, the television broadcast had already ended, so he used Twitter to voice his opinion.
"Making the famous (at)paultracy's words mine: Brian Barnhart is a circus clown!" Castroneves wrote in a series of posts. "Very disappointed for finishing 7th and being put to 22nd. This is just ABSURD !!!"
He also called Barnhart inconsistent because he penalizes some drivers and not others, changes the rule book when its convenient and blamed Barnhart for "bringing down an entire series."
Castroneves can pay off the fine without digging into his wallet, working it off through public appearances for the series. He also can appeal.
The gregarious Brazilian is one of IndyCar's most familiar faces, but it's been a bleak season.
He has won at least one race each year since 2001 but still has not won in 2011. He's led only 34 laps and has blamed his misfortunes on bad luck and poor judgment.

"Harold the bottle man" has become somewhat of a living legend, according to The Guardian, a Prince Edward Island newspaper. The 58-year-old has a display of some of the letters he's received at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in the nearby tourist town of Cavendish.
Hackett said he sends as many as 200 bottles off every week. He doesn't think he'll ever stop.

Fed's Raskin says additional easing warranted (Reuters)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? Expanded Federal Reserve efforts to boost tepid growth and cut high unemployment are justified as broken housing markets and depleted household wealth act as a brake on the recovery, a top Fed official said on Monday.
Even though the effect of aggressive Fed policies to ease financial conditions has been muted by declines in house values and consumer reticence, it would be wrong to conclude central bank actions are useless, Federal Reserve Governor Sarah Bloom Raskin said.
"The opposite conclusion might well be the case -- namely that additional policy accommodation is warranted under present circumstances," she said in remarks prepared for delivery to an event sponsored by the University of Maryland Smith School of Business.
The Fed's aggressive actions have been "completely appropriate" in promoting job growth, Raskin said. Both fiscal and monetary policymakers should be considering a wide array of approaches for fostering job creation, she said.

Palestinian man convicted of stabbing US tourist (AP)
JERUSALEM ? Israeli authorities have convicted a Palestinian man of killing an American woman last December in a forest near Jerusalem.
Kristine Luken, 44, was stabbed to death while hiking with a friend. Prosecutors say her attackers believed Luken, a Christian missionary, was Jewish.
Kifah Ghneimat, one of three suspects in the killing, is the first to be convicted in the case.
Authorities say he was the leader of a crime ring with a long history of violence.
In Sunday's ruling, Ghneimat was convicted of two counts of murder, as well as causing grave bodily harm, illegally entering Israel from the West Bank, breaking and entry, burglary, weapons trafficking, car theft and three counts of attempted murder.
He is to be sentenced in November.

Movie Review: MONEYBALL - A Home Run in Theaters now
Michael Lewis? 2003 non-fiction bestseller MONEYBALL doesn?t necessarily read like a book thatis destined for the big screen. Then again, neither did the author?s 2006 book?THE BLIND SIDE?and Hollywood still managed to turn that, not only into a blockbuster, but an Oscar nominee for best picture.One man who did see the book?s cinematic potential is star Brad Pitt, a guy who definitely has enough clout in Hollywood these days to get a project green lit. That?s fortunate for movie-goers, because MONEYBALL proves to be an engrossing sports drama, as well as an intriguing character study.
The movie focuses on Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland Athletics. Following the 2001 season in which the A?s made it to the playoffs as a wild card before being eliminated by the New York Yankees, Beane can only watch helplessly as his three star players are stolen away by the east coast teams and their big pocket books. Knowing that he will never be able to replace his superstars on his budget using the conventional means, Beane turns to a young economics major named Peter Brand to help him change the whole system.
While his veteran scouts focus more on the superficial aspects of potential players (?He?s got an ugly girlfriend?means he?s got no confidence?), Beane and Brand look at their statistics. Namely, how many times does a player get on base? It may sound like an obvious solution?after all, statistics have been a major part of baseball since the 1800s?but as strange as it may seem, statistics were not used much as a scouting tool prior to the 2002 Athletics. This novel concept was even rejected by the A?s manager Art Howe, who refused to play the seemingly worthless players his general manager had presented him with. Of course, as general manager, Beane has the tools at his disposal to make it so his manager doesn?t have any other choice. The result is a playoff bound A?s team that set the record for most consecutive winsalong the way.
When the movie is not using archival footage, the action on the field is very stylized. But this movie is not so much about the action on the field, than it is the man behind the curtain. The movie uses flashbacks to tell Billy Beane?s backstory; the story of a ?five tool prospect? signed directly out of highschool, who never quite figured it out as a major league ballplayer. He then worked his way up through the scout ranks to become the A?s general manager, maybe the least prestigious job of its kind in major league baseball due to the low payroll.
The movie inevitably loses some steam towards the end as Pitt and director Bennett Miller have the unenviable task of trying to tell the story of what happens beyond the climax of the movie/season. One wonders if it would have been better for the film to end on a high note and then use a brief, written epilogue to inform the audience of the goings on beyond that point. If they had, however, the character?study would not have been as fully developed and there are key elements in that final act that tell a lotabout Beane, the person. And after all, this is his story; the story of a man who changed the game of baseball, but is still waiting to win that final game.
MONEYBALL is rated PG-13 for ?some strong language.? I suppose there was some language, but this movie is pretty tame and close to what youmight call a ?family movie?.

The Future of Facebook: Out with profile pages, in with the Timeline (Yahoo! News)
Has Facebook gone too far in reinventing the way we share?
Facebook users have noticed some changes rolling out to the social site in recent days, but odds are they aren't prepared for today's biggest social shakeup. At today's F8 Developers Conference, Mark Zuckerberg took the stage (after look-alike Andy Samberg left it) to announce a?wide swath of changes that will seek to keep the six year-old social network thriving ? and growing.
Foremost among the announcements is the news that the humble profile page is getting a much-needed makeover ? one that could steamroll?Google+ and?Twitter alike: the?Timeline.?Mashable has called the new feature?the "biggest risk since launching the social network in 2004."?The Next Web calls the death of the profile page a "bit of a shock" and notes that the "massive makeover might just be a bit too much," especially for less tech-savvy users.
Sweeping changes
Facebook's new direction has a bit of a dual personality. At the dawning of the News Feed, Facebook loosed our status updates into the wild. While we once visited each other's profile pages to trade messages and check in on friends (or acquaintances of interest, for better or worse), the News Feed has since eclipsed our personal pages when it comes to connecting on the world's biggest social network. With today's announcement of the Timeline and the Ticker, Facebook will seek to weave together these two modes into a richer, more immersive social experience than ever.
The new Ticker will keep you up to date
The Ticker will handle the Twitter-like real-time updates, which Zuckerberg referred to as our "lightweight" social activity. Recognizing that these micro-updates (the contents of your sandwich or your Words With Friends score, for example) often clog up our profile pages, Facebook is opting to siphon them off into a kind of miniature Twitter which live in a righthand sidebar. The distinction may just seem like housecleaning, but putting these tweet-esque updates on the periphery could mean a return to Facebook's roots ? but a far more refined one.
Historically, Facebook has faced criticism for its opaque and often convoluted privacy policies. It may have taken the looming threat of Google+ on its turf to light a fire under the social giant, but Facebook is handing users the reins in a big way. In a series of updates that began popping up last month, the company is moving toward a model of selective sharing: rather than mass broadcasts, you can choose who you share with ? because your great aunt doesn't necessarily need to know what happened after the fifth drink at Happy Hour, does she?
Choose the story you tell
Now, not only can we share selectively with greater ease than ever, but we can?choose what story we want to tell. Facebook's new Timeline feature looks to invigorate the lackluster, cluttered profile pages we've been slogging through for the past few years, replacing them with a dynamic, customizable portrait of our living histories ? as told through Facebook of course. While remembering just howmuch information Facebook has stored over the years will prove unsettling to some, by curating our own past experiences (or their digital footprints, at least), we can better represent ourselves on the social network. In the Timeline, you can choose to star an event, which will give it more real estate on your profile page ? or you can hide it entirely with the click of a button.
Facebook's new Timeline feature will change the look of your social presence
At today's event, Zuckerberg emphasized a return to the profile page: "We wanted to design a place that feels like your home. You invest a lot of time in it and you curate it." In reinventing the timeline, Facebook will considerably cut down on the site's signal-to-noise ratio, transforming each profile page into what is essentially a blog. In Zuckerberg's words, the Timeline will give you "a nice visceral feel for who this person really is" rather than a messy read-out of their latest Facebook activity.
Apps will be more prominent than ever
The other side of the coin is that external apps will have more power than ever. To create a "frictionless experience," Facebook apps will broadcast to Timelines and Tickers separately ? and automatically. Like a new song you hear streaming on Spotify? That "Like" will be zapped directly to the Ticker, but in theory your Timeline wouldfeature a summary of your top artists that month. Once you authorize an app, it will fade into the background, collating your personal data like what films you watch on Netflix or Hulu and how many miles you just ran with the Nike+ app.
Of course, you could disallow these services entirely ? but Facebook wants its 800 million users to hand over the keys to third-party apps more willingly than ever. (After all, who wants an empty Timeline?) From news to movies and music, more apps plugged into the social site means less need to venture elsewhere. You could conceivably keep your browser pointed at your Facebook homepage for an entire day, hopping off only to follow the trail of an interesting link ? in fact, many of us already do.
How to find the new features
The Facebook community doesn't take kindly to changes ? even minor ones, and this isn't minor by any means. Dedicated Facebookers are already in an uproar about the changes that heralded today's news: annoyed status updates have readily denounced?Smart Lists, the?Subscribe button, the?Ticker, and even the?new privacy settings. All of these tweaks are available now to most users, and when they appear, you should notice a pop-up prompt that will walk you through the changes. Can't find the Ticker? It should appear on the right side of any Facebook page, above the chat box.
While many of the new features are now live, the biggest change ? the Timeline? will roll out gradually. To be first in line, you can opt in now by clicking "Sign Me Up" at the bottom of Facebook's official Timeline preview page. The first Timelines will be published on September 29, and we can expect to see them pop up for most users thereafter.

The 16th annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival (HPLFF) and CthulhuCon returns to the Hollywood Theatre at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. September 30th ? October 1st. This frighteningly entertaining event celebrates film and literature influenced by the master of cosmic horror, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, with two nights of horror, fantasy, and science fiction.
?I look forward to the H.P. Lovecraft Festival all year,? said Dark Horse Senior Managing Editor Scott Allie. ?It?s a great time for everyone who loves horror?the actually strange, scary stuff?to load up on hard-to-find film, fiction, comics, and other works of art. The Fest helps keep Portland weird.?
Friday night 9/30, HPLFF is proud to present the Portland-area premier of The Whisperer in Darkness, the exciting follow up to the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society?s award-winning film, The Call of Cthulhu. Saturday night 10/1, we are thrilled to bring you Die Farbe, a German adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft?s weird tale, The Colour Out of Space.
Short films include Call of Nature, Doppelganger, Flush With Fear, Dirty Silverware, Edgar Allan Poe?s ?The Raven?, Window Into Time, Haselwurm, Black Goat, Static Aeons, Shadow of the Unnamable, The Ritual, Idol Worship, and Apartment Eleven.
Sigh Co. Graphics owners, Brian and Gwen Callahan have taken the reins from festival founder, Andrew Migliore. ?The plan is to move the full three day festival to mid-May. We didn?t want to leave everyone hanging until then, so we decided there needed to be a festival in 2011. This one is going to be back to basics, a block of short films and one feature each night. The quality of film submissions just keeps getting better, so we?re really excited about this year?s selections!?
Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday, September 30th and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 1.
Prior to the films both days, join us for a meet & greet with guests and film makers at Magnolia?s Corner Wine Bar from 4-6 pm. After the films on both Friday and Saturday nights, attendees will retire to Tony Starlight?s Supper Club and Lounge for special Lovecraftian beverages and a chance to mingle with film makers and friends.
