Wisconsin-Made Chicken Salads Recalled for Listeria Threat ...

Some 13,600 pounds of chicken salads, ham salads and pasta salads produced by Milwaukee-based Garden Fresh Foods are being recalled after for fear that diced onions contained in them may be contaminated with?Listeria monocytogenes.

diced onions recalledThe FDA announced a recall of Gill onions in mid June, and various chicken salads, pasta salads with chicken, ham salads, and salad spread products produced by Garden Fresh were recently found to contain the onions. Brand names of the products being recalled include Garden Fresh, Finest Traditions, Market Pantry and Weis. The products in question were produced between July 10 and July 16.

Listeria is one most virulent food-borne pathogens, resulting in some 500 deaths annually in the United States. Symptoms of infection may be not appear until up to 70 days after exposure, so the FDA is urging consumers who may have consumed any of the recalled products to closely monitor their health. Thus far, the company has received no reported listeria illnesses.
