U.K.'s Artificial Eye Picks Up Cannes Competition Titles

LONDON -- U.K. distributor Artificial Eye has announced the acquisition of four Cannes Competition titles for distribution here.

The Dardenne?brothers' The Kid With A Bike?was the joint winner of the 2011 Grand Prix award.

Polisse, the third feature from French actress and director Maiwenn, won the 2011 Jury Prize.

Former Grand Prix winner Aki Kaurismaki?s Le Havre?played in competition during this year?s festival, garnering high critical praise for the director?s dryly witty and warm-hearted tale of a shoe-shiner who befriends a young African immigrant on the run from the police. Le Havre?won the FRIPESCI award.

Austrian director Markus Schleinzer?s debut Michael?played in competition and won over the critics with its unflinchingly brave portrayal of a pedophile who has locked a 10 year-old child in his basement.

Artificial Eye also announced its pre-buy acquisition of Rachid Bouchareb?s Just Like A Woman?from 3B and The Bureau. Starring Sienna Miller, the film is a road movie about two very different women who run away from their lives and partners to take part in a belly dancing competition.
